The lights were on but nobody was home. The shutters were open on but nobody could see out. None could enter. The familiar yellow building that is home to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach was only eighteen inches tall. “TURKLES”, the new environmental-mystery-comedy film was shooting on location at the center, and needed the model as a prop in a scene. “I was able to duplicate the color and design by matching it to photos that I had taken,” said Vinny Chimato art director on the project. “TURKLES” brings many environmental themes to the fore, focusing on the plight of the Loggerhead and other Sea Turtles. “It was a natural fit” said “TURKLES” Producer Chel Tassey, “the LMC plays an important role in both our film and our community.” Tassey was sure to show the model to Nanette Lawrenson director of the center who was impressed with the detail. “TURKLES” is the story of Jenn & David, two campers at the fictional “Camp Loggerhead” who decide to solve the mystery of who is stealing turtle eggs from the beach near their Florida home. The production had its beginnings in “Real to Reel in Real Time” a class at The Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre taught by Frank Eberling, an award winning, veteran producer of over 3000 documentaries, television programs, and feature films. Ripped from today’s headlines, turtle egg poachers are just one of a series of ongoing threats to the sea turtle population. The production continues through August at various locations throughout northern Palm Beach County. For more information go to www.TURKLES.tv
