Ladies Consignment Shop
Focus - Designer Casual Wear

This Tequesta Shop is an Extension of a Successful
13-Year Old Hobe Sound Business With Similar Focuse

TEQUESTA --After operating an upscale ladies consignment shop in Hobe Sound for 13 years, Linda A’loughlin discovered a need for a similar shop in Tequesta. So, she landed a spot in the Fashion Mall at 150 N. U. .S. Highway One, Suite 19, late last year and business at The Stock Exchange was brisk from the start.

“We offer women of the area designer clothing, hand bags and shoes as the main focus, but we do have a collection of mostly new costume jewelry, too,” Linda explained. “Today, women go for casual wear since we now have a more casual society, and, of course business attire. Most of what we display is like new and very affordable.” Linda noted that the store also has some formal wear as there are occasional needs for these styles, but “casual” is the word nowadays.

The Stock Exchange policies are similar to other consignment businesses. Items consigned are displayed for two months. If the items have not sold in that time, the owners may pick them up, or the clothing will be donated to local charity thrift shops. Naturally, all clothing must be in excellent condition, cleaned, ironed, fresh smelling and on hangars. No items with stains, tears or signs of wear will be accepted. Further, styles consigned must be less than three years old. Consigners will receive 40 percent of the selling price for the various items.

“Our goal here at the Tequesta Stock Exchange,” Linda advised, “is to provide quality clothing at great prices. In order to meet this goal, we must be very selective when accepting items for consignment. We only accept what we feel will sell. The ultimate interest is to receive the best money possible for the client.”

The store here is very attractive, merchandised well and offers excellent lighting for ease of shopping. However, in order to achieve this status, Linda remodeled the store three different times since opening in November. She was striving to make more room for clothing, provide easier access for shoppers and introduce better displays.

“We’re pleased with the arrangement now,” the proprietor said, “and feel customers will find it to be a pleasant place to shop at their leisure.” Racks, wall displays and other convenient merchandising will be noted.

Linda’s background has been teaching. She retired a few years ago from a position at Jupiter Elementary School. When she was longing for something challenging to do, the consignment store idea materialized, and she suddenly found herself wrapped in a fast growing venture that she really enjoyed. “The Hobe Sound store took off rather quickly,” she said, “and we’ve kept it going and thriving for the past 13 years. We’re hopeful the Tequesta store will be successful, too.” If the trend continues as it has since The Stock Exchange here was opened, it is bound to be a busy place.

The store in in a good location - corner of U. S. One and Tequesta Drive - but, Linda’s unit is in the back and toward the north end of the shopping plaza. “We’re hard to find,” she noted, “as there is no signage out front on the street. However, people seem to be finding us.” The store is between Puritan Cleaners and Illusions Salon and Spa, somewhat directly north of Treasure Coast Carpet.

The Stock Exchange is a wonderful, quality shop for women and very reasonably priced. For more information on the consignment store, call (561) 746-0046.
