TREADMILL VS. RUNAWAY TRAIN: There is discussion regarding health care reform in D. C. The content of the bill appears to be somewhat loosely prepared and confusing. So it is with many who are experiencing health problems on the local level. It’s doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist, test after test. One appears to be on a treadmill flowing endlessly from one place to another. All is OK, but the crux of the problem is not identified. Then, one seems to be on a runaway train traveling at high speed with no engineer - and, about to crash into the proverbial brick wall at the end of the tunnel. Back and forth we go from runaway train to treadmill. It appears to be endless and costly. Yet, despite the herding of our bodies from one doctor to another, our intelligence provides us two important things to cling to - optimism and hope. For without those two options, what does one have? One has to be optimistic that things will get better. He can only hope that it will.
