Steppin’ Out by Bee Bee
Well, here we are already heading into month two of the New Year. Seems like the holidays were just here. Speaking of holidays, besides some famous birthdays in February, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It’s the perfect day for romance and a great excuse to take your honey out for a wonderful brunch or dinner. Many local restaurants are offering great specials including complimentary wine, champagne and roses. Be sure to check out our advertiser’s specials in their ad in this issue.
The music scene is going strong in the north county, so there’s a lot to talk about. Sugarcane Island Bistro is continuing their great music lineup this month at their beautiful outdoor venue. They kick it off every Wednesday night with the Sierra Light Band. Jim Cole comes in and sings the oldies on Thursday nights. Fridays there’s a DJ to play your favorite requests. Saturday Cory Martin sings Sinatra and more. And wrapping up the weekend, come out and enjoy the Tropical Pig Roast Buffet while listening to the enchanting sounds of Gary Frost & Debbie Tassone of Acoustic Soul. The Sugarcane has a great regular menu available as well. We are happy to see that Fran, at the indoor bar, is back. Remember, no Fly By’s!
One of the busiest live music venues in the county is certainly not going to disappoint anyone this month. Average Joe’s Pub in Jupiter has a full lineup of great music in February. Rosco Martinez Band performs on the 5th. The Sex Cells rock it on the 6th. Valerie and her band Valcano are on stage the 12th. Cold Iron chills the house on the 13th. Jester plays the 19th. Catch the “fever” of Swamp Fever on the 20th. The Up Dawg band howls on the stage on the 26th. Playing their very unique surfer/reggae originals, Sovereign Vine heats it up on the 27th. Mark your calendar for the upcoming Pajama Party at the Joe’s with Mighty Quinn on March 12th. Don’t miss it!
For the Country & Rock fans, there is no better place to see some fantastic live bands than Uncle Mick’s in the Jupiter West Plaza. The Persuaders are rockin’ on February 4th, 5th & 6th. The Logan Brothers perform on the 11th, 12th & 13th. Thunder Road roars into Mick’s on the18th, 19th & 20th. And Juke Joint Junkies finish out the month on the 25th, 26th & 27th. In addition to their live music, Uncle Mick’s offers Texas Hold-Em Poker every Saturday & Sunday afternoons. It’s also a great place to watch your favorite sports teams on the two 10 foot video screens. They’re having lots of specials for the Super Bowl, so check out their ad in this issue.
Our Entertainment reporter, Sandy Brown, checked out Jumby Bay Island Grill and presented this report.
Jumby Bay Island Grill in Abacoa continues to delight the masses that hunger and thirst for a tasty, dollar friendly menu and bar, featuring two for ones on a regular basis. If the surroundings don’t take you to the tropics, the food fusion of the Caribbean and sunny Florida hitting your tongue definitely will. Having a hard time choosing an entree? Jumby Bay is the perfect place to bring a group of hungry friends to try one of each. On a recent visit I enjoyed the island saucy BBQ chicken sandwich and a cold draft. Beers were two for one though getting served both at one time may not be the best idea. The Coco Loco Shrimp, coconut crusted and served with Orange Marmalade filled my guy. We split an almost indecent dessert of Peanut Butter Cup Pie. There goes the New Year’s resolution. Music is varied. Most Thursdays feature Phil Galfano’s rock band, Inward. DJs round out most weekends. A classic car show is held on the first Saturday of each month; a good time to stop in and sample a tropical delicacy such as “Jumby” Laya; a spicy mix of Shrimp, Andouille Sausage, Chicken and ….What could be more mouth watering.
Hot News Flash! Back by popular demand, local musicians Pam & Dave, Pam Wyman and Dave Reed, are now playing at The Jupiter Beach Resort, Thursday nights 7-10pm. In addition to entertaining the visiting hotel crowd, Pam & Dave always have quite a local following. Though the lounge is in the resort, all are welcome. While there, order some of the great food that the resort has to offer.
A true local treasure that is available to anyone living in or visiting Jupiter is of course, the Jupiter Lighthouse. What some don’t realize is that there are very few locations that offer live music and a great view of the Lighthouse. The Crab House is directly across the water from the lighthouse and has a spectacular vantage point to sip a tropical drink, listen to live music and be mesmerized by the grandeur of the Jupiter Lighthouse. They currently offer music seven nights a week at the outside bar, directly on the water. Don’t miss the great Happy hour drink prices and appetizer specials.
Contributing reporter, Sandy Brown visited Le Metro and gives us this report. Le Metro in Abacoa continues to serve up new and exciting dining opportunities. “Sips and Bits Happy Hour” with drink specials and $5 appetizers from 5-7 PM nightly, are served indoors or out on their new open air patio.” Monthly wine tasting is in the offering. Owner/ Chef Alluno’s Rack of Lamb and Dover Soul with Meuniere Sauce are both hot items on a menu featuring a generous selection of mouth watering French and American fare. Stone Crab season is here! Offered as an appetizer and dinner selection you can’t go wrong. Hmmmm, I think I will have one of each without developing a guilt complex. Fall dining specials offering Choice of Entrée, Soup or Salad, Dessert and a glass of Complimentary House Wine, all for a wallet friendly price of $19.95. Hostess Mary Ellen Alluno and staff begin and end your evening with a pleasant smile and courteous service.

This intimate setting insures an incredible musical experience for all. If you would like to hear one of the best orchestras in the area in this great venue, and not have to pay an arm and a leg, head down to the Eissey on February 21st. The Indian River Pops will be performing at this beautiful theatre, and will be featuring a Las Vegas themed show. Music from the Vegas Strip superstars including, Sinatra, Liberace, Cirque de Soleil, Celine Dion and of course, songs from The Rat Pack. And remember: What happens at their concert, stays at their concert! The group Barrage performs on February 9th. Barrage is a high-octane fiddle group that features an international, multitalented cast performing an eclectic mix of music, song and dance. This young hip cast delivers the show with amazing energy and musical virtuosity that will take your breath away. Another great show coming March 3rd is Tamburitzans. We mentioned it last month, and understand that the finishing touches are underway at Paradise Grill & Wingery. We stopped by their space in Tequestas County Line Plaza to check on their progress and were excited to see the bright tropical colors and beautiful gardens surrounding their patio. The menu should be a big hit with something for all tastes, including unique appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, steaks, chops, fish and of course, all kinds of wings! To wet your whistle, Paradise Grill & Wingery will offer ice cold draft beer, wine, frozen tropical’s, sodas, coffees, espressos, teas, floats and more. This new eatery in the County Line Plaza in Tequesta, will be serving lunch and dinner. They will have an extended Happy Hour and will stay open late for watching sports on their multiple TVs. The “To Go” window is sure to be a big hit with families, offering take out as well as soft serve ice cream! In addition, shakes, malts and sundaes will be available. Looks like they have covered all the delights that you would expect to find in a place called Paradise!
Lucky’s Bar & Grill has quite a musical lineup for February. Cecilia Lauran hits the stage on the 5th & 6th. Swamp Fever heads out west to thrill the crowd on the 12th & 13th. Tom Jackson performs on the 19th. And Southern Cause plays three nights this month, the 20th, 26th and 27th. Be sure to check out Lucky’s ad in this issue for some valuable meal coupons.
We took a short ride up to Hobe Sound the other night to check out what’s happening at Scooter’s Bar & Grill. The On Target band with Jimmy Red Shoes was playing. If you’ve never heard this band, check them out sometime. In addition to the unique singing abilities of Jimmy Red Shoes, they’re one of the few local bands that incorporate a horn section, consisting of a fantastic sax, trombone and trumpet player. With the addition of the horns, they play a real variety from Steely Dan to Chicago. We also enjoyed a Roast Beef Melt sandwich. Scooter’s has really good food and it’s quite reasonable. They offer a number of draft beers and a full liquor bar. It’s sports bar atmosphere is inviting and family friendly. It’s worth the short drive. Check it out sometime!
The Lobster House hosted their first Bike Bash on Sunday, January 24th. The parking lot was packed with all types of stock and custom bikes.
