Well Known Tequesta Woman Opens Unique This Boutique is Unusual in That the Owner Had Hobe Sound-One of the more interesting thrift shops in this area opened January 8 at 9409 S. E. Federal Highway in Hobe Sound. Known as Christina's Thrift Boutique, the shop is a treasure chest of items collected by owner, Christine Weber, over the years from throughout the world. Many of the items are rare and originally expensive, but the proprietor decided to place most of her collection in one place and sell out at very reasonable prices. "We have items that are collector's items, many very rare, antiques and a variety of other inventory of less value, such as previously used clothing, jewelry and other merchandise," Christine advised, " all at affordable prices." We invite our friends, former Cafe Heidelberg customers and new faces to come view our collection. We think you'll be surprised at what you'll find." Christine is the mother of Dieter Weber, who owned Cafe Heidelberg in Tequesta for 11 years, taking it over from his grandfather who also owned it for 11 years. She worked along side her son and her father much of that time. Because of the popularity of the restaurant, Christine became acquainted with many people and is well known in the area. Her son is now serving as chef at his aunt's Heidelberg in New York City. Essentially, the boutique offers a little bit of everything for everybody. From rare and expensive Hummel’s from Germany, Morano glass sculptures and Lenox French glassware and figurines to everyday items such as previously used furniture, jewelry and clothing - you'll find it all at Christina's. Among the collectibles are such items as old paintings, the original 'one leg up' lamp from "The Christmas Story" (made in the 1940’s), original Norman Rockwell plates, and Chinese real china plates, rare crystal from Germany, a mix of antique dolls (several from the 30s) and many other interesting pieces. These include some Hummel’s from Germany and a number of paintings. As Christine says, "the thrift items are displayed outside and the expensive things are inside." This is literally true. One can buy some used clothing on the outdoor racks starting at $4.00. Inside, the more expensive stuff is priced right. How about original, hard to find fondue sets for only $40.00 (some never removed from the box), or Devinchi figurines for only $15.00? Christine's, has them. Incidentally, the boutique features a one-of-a-kind antique leopard wood table in pristine condition, too. Children haven't been left out here. There are a number of interesting toys that are different from those of today, and stuffed animals that kids love in excellent shape. Numerous children’s garments are also available - many for babies - at Christina's. The shop is very unusual, for sure, and the finds are unbelievable. It would be to your advantage to take a little eight miles trip up U. S. One to Hobe Sound and discover for yourself what Christina's Thrift Boutique is all about. Besides, Christine would like to see you and get acquainted, if she isn't already. A Grand Opening will be held on February 14th from 2-7pm. Authentic German hor d’oeuvres will be served. For more information on the shop, call (772) 546-7264.
